Remembering Mac

Mac

I did this drawing of cousin Joan's dog, Mac a few years ago.  I wanted to post it again since Mac passed away Dec. 6th.  He was a wonderful dog, truly a gentle giant and he will be missed.

Animal studies

Lately my art time has been very limited, so I have taken to sketching during lunch hour break.  The deer and hare (kuretake pens) were done on lunch break, the heron and bluebird at home (gouache).

Coco

  Coco

This is an attempt at gouache using a photo I took of Coco at the Wolf people in Idaho.  She is such a pretty wolf I'll do it again using color.  It's a fun medium.

Horse and wolf sketches

This sketch is taken from a photo of horses in a meadow on a trip to North Carolina.  The photo is much more detailed with mountains and trees in the background and is beautiful but I just simplified it for sketching.

Paddington Bear & Clydesdale figuerine

Clydesdale Figurerine

Kuretake pens

I was looking around the house for things to sketch. I came across this figure of a horse, it also has a cart that it pulls. My mom bought this in Ireland when she visited back in the 60's. It is a treasure to me and very special.

Sugar and Serafina

Serafina

Sketch with kuretake pens.

Sugar

Pastel

Working in black pastel was definitely a challenge. This is my first attempt. I used suede board which was nice, it is very smooth.

Dottie and Spike

Dottie
Dottie was my friend Slyvia's dog. She passed away about a year ago. When she gave me a photo, I said don't you have a better one, where her eyes are open. She said "this is my favorite photo of Dottie because she is smiling". So there you have it, done in charcoal.

Spike

Spike wandered into my friend Rick's shop which is located at a very busy, hectic intersection. It was a miracle that he did not get hit by a car. He was shaking and frightened. No one claimed him so Rick took him home and he is now a very happy dog.
